New Zealand has announced that a new licensing system will be introduced for online gambling in NZ before 2026. There is no exact date for when the new licensing system will come into effect, but we already know how the licenses will be distributed.
Auctioned to the highest bidder
When the new licensing system is in place, the government will auction licenses to the highest bidder. It also means that there will be a limited number of licenses for sale, and our guess is that the largest companies will be able to afford to bid for this license. Casinos such as Skycity, Christchurch, LeoVegas are casinos we believe will be licensed with a NZ casino license.
Only casinos are licensed
Another important thing that the government has said is that the licenses will only be awarded to casinos, ie sports and lotto sites will not be able to get a NZ license.
Faster profits & greater security
For us players, the new gaming license will mean faster withdrawals as casinos can cooperate with the local banks in NZ as well as greater security as the government will check that casinos follow the laws and regulations that apply in New Zealand.
